Tell it to disabled Scots, says First Minister Alex Salmond

Tell it to disabled Scots, says First Minister Alex Salmond

‘Earlier this month, the UK Treasury declared that, following a period of intense and prolonged analysis of the economic numbers, each of us would be £1 a year worse off in an independent Scotland. Put another way, for £1 a year you will never have to endure the economic privations of a Conservative government ever again. You will not be penalised for being poor or old and nor will you suffer the pain of watching your young boys being killed in illegal wars or occupations.’

‘Even to a unionist like me, an Alex Salmond-led government is preferable to one that rewards greed and corruption’ writes Kevin McKenna

  1. The torys better change their party name toot suite, officially the Conservative and Unionist Party. As after 2014 they may go down in history as the party who put an end to the union and mark my words as soon as Scotland goes so will Northern Ireland and the rest of their overseas territories soon after.
I really don’t think the three main parties have as much as one brain cell amongst the lot of them.

Sounds like a £ well spent.

  2. £1 a year worse of in an independent Scotland? I’d be happy to be £1,000 a year worse off if it means that I get to live in a country run along the lines of social justice instead of being under the jackboots of London tories who we didn’t even vote for.

    • ‘The widely held assumption on the left that Labour cannot win in England and therefore needs Scotland to secure a parliamentary majority is greatly exaggerated.

‘Labour has won elections for the most part when it has secured a majority of seats in England. Elections in which Scottish MPs have been decisive are in fact relatively rare.

‘There have been none since 1945 in which Scottish MPs have turned a Conservative majority into a Labour government or vice versa.

‘Moreover, Labour would have won, if with a reduced majority, in 1945, 1966, 1997, 2001 and 2005, without its Scottish MPs. An exaggerated fear of the Conservative inclination of the largest country in the Union has become a damaging mental habit in Labour circles.’

e-petition - Stop Unfair Re-assessments For Disabled People

Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions

Stop the unfair and cruel re-assessments via ATOS for disabled people currently on Incapacity Benefit. ESA is a flawed benefit, and puts terrible pressure and stress on vulnerable people, putting people who cannot work on lesser benefits and applying sanctions. Let disabled people decide for themselves if they can work, they and their carers know best.
