In the wake of the UK LMCs Conference vote by Britain’s GPs to end the DWP/AtoS Work Capability Assessment “with immediate effect” The Black Triangle Campaign called for the immediate resignation of both Simon Gillespie, CEO of The MS Society and Sir Michael Marmot, President of the BMA from the Government’s advisory committee on the Work Capability Assessment:

You can read more on the detailed background to Gillespie’s appointment here:

It is crystal clear that participation in this panel does nothing but legitimise a now utterly discredited ‘assessment’ régime which is undeniably – in the strictest legal sense of the word in that the overwhelming hard empirical evidence is irrefutable – causing enormous devastation, hardship and even death to sick and/or disabled people on a daily basis.

If ever any more evidence of the fact that the government is utilising this sham committee to justify its completely unconscionable – indeed criminal – so-called welfare ‘reforms’ were needed; the following post, by campaign member Joe Kane, makes that fact explicit.

While these men remain on this committee they remain complicit and are co-conspirators in systems and policies that systematically violate the fundamental human rights and welfare of sick and/or disabled people.

They are collaborators in a process which continues to causing enormous avoidable harm and suffering to patients, among whom are numbered some of the weakest and most vulnerable members of our society; many of whose like have already taken their own lives or have died of neglect, as documented by H.M Coroner’s inquests.

NO IFS! NO BUTS! GILLESPIE AND MARMOT MUST RESIGN, NOW!

 Joe Kane Reports:

Just to say, Scottish Tory MSP Mary Scanlon in the Scottish Parliament used the new appointment of MS CEO Society Simon Gillespie to the WCA Advisory Committee to justify the Coalition Government’s own approach to its own welfare reforms.

Apparrently, MS sufferers voices are being heard.

So that’s ok then:

e-petition - Stop Unfair Re-assessments For Disabled People

Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions

Stop the unfair and cruel re-assessments via ATOS for disabled people currently on Incapacity Benefit. ESA is a flawed benefit, and puts terrible pressure and stress on vulnerable people, putting people who cannot work on lesser benefits and applying sanctions. Let disabled people decide for themselves if they can work, they and their carers know best.
