  1. “Our welfare reforms will improve the lives of some of the poorest families in our communities, with the Universal Credit simplifying the complex myriad of benefits and making 3million people better off,” the spokesman added.

The DWP spokesman has not got it right. Universal credit will not make people better off in most cases. In fact it will be capped. Universal credit simply means that people will get a single payment but that payment will be made up of several benefits which of course people will have to apply for. As yet there is no IT system ready for the introduction of Universal credit.

Whats the betting that this will cost more than the system it’s to replace?

e-petition - Stop Unfair Re-assessments For Disabled People

Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions

Stop the unfair and cruel re-assessments via ATOS for disabled people currently on Incapacity Benefit. ESA is a flawed benefit, and puts terrible pressure and stress on vulnerable people, putting people who cannot work on lesser benefits and applying sanctions. Let disabled people decide for themselves if they can work, they and their carers know best.
