Very disappointed in Channel Four News tonight for allowing Clegg to use the programme as a platform to spout sheer falsehood and propaganda regarding the DWP/AtoS Work Capability Assessment régime and for having permitted his nostrums to go unchallenged.

Why didn’t Cathy Newman confront Clegg with the fact that it is the now the national policy of the entire British Medical Profession top DEMAND that the WCA ‘end with immediate effect’, for starters?

Shocking.

  1. ATOS don’t make the decision, an unqualified non medical administrative member of staff at the DWP gets to decide your fate. I disagree with you Nick Clegg, you do not speak for “everyone”. I’m sure anyone who has gone through this miserable, stressful, terrifying work capability assessment and be wrongly found fit for work will agree. It’s not fit for purpose. There was no coherence between what I told the assessor and the nonsense he wrote about me in his report. I wondered if they had got it mixed up and sent me someone else’s by mistake. There is no fairness or coherent decision making apparent when forcing a frightened individual in mental distress through the bewildering appeals process. Thank you for making my anxiety, depression and agoraphobia much much worse.

Interesting that some small amount of money is being passed to the NHS for mental health therapies. Considering half of all illness is mental illness an additional £400 million against of a budget of £106 billion isn’t going to stretch very far, especially when there is no guarantee it will even reach the mental health departments it’s intended for. What a lot of spin and nonsense Mr Clegg!

  2. I wonder how long it will take for people to realise that this medical is a form of assault. Maybe lawyers are realising but its going to have to be pro bono if you are in need.

  3. This beggars belief. I didn’t realise even Nick Clegg’s stupidity reached quite such depths. Very shameful of Channel 4 to let him get away with it: Cathy Newman is usually very good – she roasted Chris Grayling about workfare.

  4. glegg doesnt live in the real world atos is now taken in a coherant way yes shown the bloody door with big fines for miss management joker in the pack is he jeff3

  5. I am Glad I did Not Vote for the Con Dems at the last Election throughMillions of Idiots did So.

The Arrogance of these Politicians convinces myself like Common Sense that the
UK will be Better Off without Wrecking Politicians

Scrap the Work Capability Assessment and the Con Dem Regime Dictatorship with
    Immediate Effect

  6. No, Clegg is right. The WCA has brought some much-needed rigour to a benefits system that was out of control.
The truly disabled must be protected. But the rest of us (I suffered a brain haemorrhage two years ago, I still suffer the residual effects) benefit from the social aspects of work

  7. Fucking amazing!!
Clegg starts off by saying how mental health has been brushed under the carpet and then proceeds to brush any debate about his governemnts actions under the carpet.
    What a cunt

  8. I’m on the first rung of the appeals process 🙂 It has always amazed me that this ‘farce’ hasn’t been challenged in court before now. What are we? Three years in now? My quack tells me he knows of NO ONE who has won the appeal 😀 If this appeal fails (which I am expecting) then we roll on to the upper appeal, after that it will be European courts, then after that I was going to consider taking the government to court. If all else fails then I can introduce them to the concept of ‘sectioning’, although that will cost someone a nose 🙂

The hard bit is surviving long enough on 50 quid a week to see it through.

If there is anything I can do to help in any way plz email me. I have NEVER been the activist type, I’m 50 years old, but that is about to change. I need to join an organisation like yours. I have the time.

    • I want to wish you all the very best and may you be successful in your appeal. if you are not, DONT give up. My grandfather was forced into activism by terribly harsh working conditions in the 1920’s. He had many a tale to tell but he always said: “Never give up. NEVER”. It’s such a simple phrase and one that gives me great strength. I hope it will give you strength too.

  9. Unbelievable the way this man can insulate himself from reality. What kind of bubble is he living in that he cannot see the devastation that these policies are creating to people who really could do without the hassle and harassment they have been getting. Keep fighting this people, we know it is wrong, and at the end of the day I do think that the majority of people would be utterly moved to tears by some of the things that have happened this year if they coudl get beyond the complicit media lies.

  10. He’s talking more of miner depression that many people suffer with when over worked underpaid and bills pilling up to braking point general depression isn’t exactly Chronic depression witch affects you far more greatly, Chronic depression, or dysthymia, is characterized by a long-term depressed mood, a combination of symptoms that interfere with a person’s ability to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy once-pleasurable activities.
Like some people who suffer with Chronic pain also suffer with Chronic depression and going by Atos’s “Quite” we dote need medical evidents or a letter from your GP or Specialist to tell use how ill you are + we dote need medically trained people to examine you! So haw the F**K can you know that someone is Chronically ill or depressed if you have no medically trained staff that understand the symptoms, that’s like saying you dote need a qualified builder, electrician, plumber or gas engineer to do the work required by a professional, Cleggy is a dum ass twat!

e-petition - Stop Unfair Re-assessments For Disabled People

Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions

Stop the unfair and cruel re-assessments via ATOS for disabled people currently on Incapacity Benefit. ESA is a flawed benefit, and puts terrible pressure and stress on vulnerable people, putting people who cannot work on lesser benefits and applying sanctions. Let disabled people decide for themselves if they can work, they and their carers know best.
