BLACK TRIANGLE CAMPAIGN FULLY ENDORSES THIS VISION
The current government is attacking the welfare system by cutting £18 billion from welfare, while giving away more than £25 billion in corporate tax breaks over the same period. It is emphasising the cost of fraud when £1.5 billion is lost in this way, but turning a blind eye to £120 billion of tax lost through evasion, avoidance and non-collection.
PCS has taken a leading role within the trade union movement in voicing concerns about welfare policy, and in campaigning to defend the welfare state.
PCS members take pride in the welfare state and they want a welfare state that provides a decent standard of living for the retired, the unemployed and for those unable to work, and that rewards them fairly as public servants.
Over the past 30 years the concept of welfare has been under attack. As government’s have stopped pursuing policies of full employment they have sought to pass the blame for unemployment to the individual.
John McInally PCS National Vice President said “The Government’s £18billion welfare cuts will remove the most basic safety net for millions of the most vulnerable people in society, and will be a disaster for individuals, families and communities.
PCS reject the savage cuts and privatization programme as unworthy of any civilized society and will organize in our workplaces and communities to defeat it.
The launch of the alternative will take place at the STUC, 333 Woodlands Road, Glasgow and will be addressed by John McInally PCS National Vice President.
The launch will discuss the past, present and future of welfare and hope it starts a new debate about the sort of welfare and society that we want.
