Kevin Stewart hit out at the UK Government after finding the French firm will rake in £40m from the contract just in Scotland and northern England – with more cash expected from the south.

AN MSP has tabled a motion at Holyrood condemning the UK Government’s decision to hand Atos a £206million contract to strip people of their benefits.

The SNP’s Kevin Stewart raised the issue after discovering the French firm will pocket up to £40million for heaping misery on Scots and people in northern England.

The projection was revealed through a Freedom of Information request.

Although the figure was hidden by officials, Stewart was able to see it when he converted the PDF document to Microsoft Word.

The Record has highlighted the misery Atos caused by their humiliating assessments of whether the disabled should still receive benefits.

Aberdeen Central MSP Stewart said:

“What makes matters worse is that this £40million profit is only the tip of the iceberg as it only covers Scotland and the north of England.

“When you take into account the fact that similar contracts will be awarded across the rest of the UK, private companies will be laughing all the way to the bank.”

  1. yes its this way please for zero points and please leave the building quietly as of now you cured and have been touched by god who will now have skipping and running around the building and fit for work while in reality you crawl around how nice they were while sticking the knife into you now live on fresh air as from now zero benefits and please dont try to appeal as now you not get any pennyies to live on bye bye suckers jeff3

  2. So does anyone expect a private company to do this work for no money??! Get real, people. It would have cost two or three times as much if left in the public sector, because of the cost of redundancy and protected pensions. Like it or not (and I don’t) the private sector is here to stay because the alternative is too expensive for any political party

  3. Hi Rodger, I think the fact that Atos is the private company is what’s causing concern here.
Not that I have any faith in the other companies out there but it is the blatant disregard for the public that is being shown here..

e-petition - Stop Unfair Re-assessments For Disabled People

Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions

Stop the unfair and cruel re-assessments via ATOS for disabled people currently on Incapacity Benefit. ESA is a flawed benefit, and puts terrible pressure and stress on vulnerable people, putting people who cannot work on lesser benefits and applying sanctions. Let disabled people decide for themselves if they can work, they and their carers know best.
