    Brilliant post

  • Bill MacLeod September 9, 2012 at 12:16 am

G’on yersel Mo, this is why I vote SNP.

  • DAVID A SHAW September 9, 2012 at 12:31 am

The whole disgusting truth in one clear article. Unum and Atos and the Dwp, all working hand in hand with the government to save money while lining their own pockets in a major way and making thousands suffer in the process. You cannot be any clearer than that.

  • kelpimare September 9, 2012 at 2:31 am

    Excellent documentation.
Now why couldn’t ANY political party have done this? As left of centre-left Labour I am, it sickens me that they, too, subscribed to the falsehood of mass fraud by Incapacity Benefit/Disability Living Allowance claimants.
Labour, to their eternal shame, took the first steps, which would ease the vile process that now exists, courtesy of Tory….sorry, ConDemns coalition dictatorship.

  • jeffery davies September 9, 2012 at 11:57 am

but when will it end its just so unbeleavible that they who sit the great house allow it to happen jeff3

  • Joanna Terry September 9, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Why are we being allowed to live in such fear, why has the Labour Party refused to address this travesty and come out with a firm promise that these robber barons will be made to lose everything? The money then going towards the disabled to recompense us for this stress. How has it come to this in this day and age that we are threatened with our very lives? Does anyone know if we can bring them to court in a civil action, including this dispicable disability denying government?

    • jed goodright September 9, 2012 at 4:21 pm

the labour party fully support what is happening
Moribund is on record as saying it is important that disabled people go to work and feel good about themselves

  • Mike Llywelyn Cox September 9, 2012 at 3:47 pm

Class action? I’m willing for one.

  • Christina Klein-Bissett September 10, 2012 at 4:34 am

What can we do to make it end?

  • Annette Dickinson September 10, 2012 at 9:40 am

I to am disgusted at Labour, even more so than the Tory led coalition? you sort of expect it from them, but being betrayed by your own is unforgivable? this is back door genocide? at lest the Nazi’s were honest about what they were doing? to me looking after the most vulnerable in society is (or should be) a top priority, more important than forking out billions on wars or airport runways? note the MP’s are still giving themselves massive expenses? and they still haven’t taken any steps toward plugging tax loop holes and seeing to it that the filthy rich pay their fair wack? no it seems they’d rather neglect and rob the disabled, putting them through the Hell of an ATOS assessment on the way? this country has regressed so much in two and a half years, and the current Labour leadership must be leaving some of their late and great predecessors spinning in their graves?

January/February time when the Welfare Reform Bill was in the news as it went through parliament there were quite a few UNUM advertisements for Income Protection policies.

They were quite happy to feed of folks fears then so the more worried those who are uninformed become the more they hope will turn to them to “protect” their income – no wonder that they must be rubbing their hands!

  • TiddK September 10, 2012 at 7:21 pm

Good article, but your research into the “Why” didn’t go back far enough I believe. The name that should resonate through the nightmare of welfare “reform” is that of one Mansel Aylward, one time senior official of the DWP and later paid adviser to UNUM. His “Psycho-Social Model” of illness and disability (widely discredited throughout the Health Service) is what kick started the whole inglorious affair. Though it is equally true to say that what was a misguided and spurious academic model was gleefully seized upon by the Civil Service and politicians, who saw it as a way to prune the welfare budget of millions£ and billions£ at a stroke.
His subsequent paymasters at UNUM put his model into practice, and then ATOS Healthscare who are still at it.

    • Mo Stewart January 12, 2013 at 10:16 am

Just seen this. Yep, my next research is into Aylward but this is the other way round – he copied from Unum who have been using the bogus BPS model of disability assessment long before Aylward got on the same bogus track.

Check out the detailed response to Aylward by academic Gill Thorburn – widely available online – as Gill’s piece is significant.

I Knew that the Tories were going to be a Diabolical Disaster of a Regime and tried
to Warn People but the Do Not Ever Think Lot took No Notice George Orwell’s
    1984 Ignorance is Strength

We Need Real Opposition to Welfare Ruination ( Mass Public Protest on a Daily Basis ) and Wrecking together with Getting the Con Dems Out of Office otherwise Things will get Worse so a Revolutionary Change can be Made in British History Present and Future by
Things Getting Better ie Constitutional Protection of the Welfare Benefits of
the Poor and Vulnerable , Abolition of All Unnecessary Bureaucracy and Work Capability Assessments and to Ensure that NEVER Again the ” Conservatives ” or the Liberal
Democrats will be the Government of the United Kingdom following the Diabolical
Policies they have Pursued with Regards to Welfare Provision since the Day of Tragedy
May 11th 2010 whilst BILLIONS of Pounds have been and are Wasted upon the War in
Afghanistan Nuclear Weapons and the EU Shambles

  • Humanity2012 September 11, 2012 at 12:27 pm

Illustration of the Cost of UK Maintaining Nuclean Weapons was in the Region of
£12.6 Billion Pounds at 1996 Prices and cost £280 Million Pounds a Year to Maintain

The Replacement is Estimated at least £5 Billion Pounds for Missiles Alone
and around £20 to 30 Billion Pounds for Missiles Submarines and Research Facilities

We Need Money For Welfare Not upon the Mayhem and Murder of Nuclear Warfare

  • kasbah September 12, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Well done Mo- I hope they sit up and take notice of your excellent report. As a fibromyalgic osteoarthritis sufferer I now face two appeals- one for DLA and one for ESA- both based on one seriously flawed ESA ATOS WCA. I will do whatever I can in my parlous state to oust this bunch of morality dodgers and money suckers. Our anger is real and it is coming for them!

  • Yvonne Harvell September 12, 2012 at 9:14 pm

what a well put together report.

My question is who in parliament is on our side who do we vote for next time? I see no one willing to speak up for us in our government now when its needed.

  • Mo Stewart October 13, 2012 at 11:34 am

Hi – things are moving on albeit very slowly. The new Minister for Employment is Mark Hoban, whose still refusing to permit a review/reform of the WCA so there will be no improvement.
Regional/local press and media much more interested than the nationals so perhaps you could not only print off my report and send to MPs, but also to local and regional media- radio & TV. Not until and unless somewhere in the press/media expose the DWP relationship with Unum will this nightmare start to crumble.
Once the British people are warned that this is a pre-curser to the introduction of the US system – funded by insurance – will there be a public reaction.

  • Mo Stewart December 7, 2012 at 8:40 pm

Tom Greatrex is doing a fine job leading the fight against Atos & the WCA – above is a link to debate in Westminster Hall on Sept 4th – watch out for Anne Begg – she’s formidable.

  • Mo Stewart January 13, 2013 at 10:27 am

NB: ATOS HEALTHCARE to be debated in a full House of Commons (3 hour) debate on Thursday, 17th January from 11.00am
