An interesting point has been raised in response to this (unsurprising) news: if GPs are essentially going to have a limited role in providing health care, and will be pushed into commissioning private services, does this affect the patient charter that specifies access to choice (which might conceivably take the form of preference for NHS over private care)?
Would making it clear to GPs that we’d choose NHS services have any impact upon their retention?
(Unfortunately I doubt it. In reality I feel we have little real ‘choice’, and I anticipate that this’d be used as an excuse to palm off ‘awkward customers’ onto another gp practice – especially those of us who have essentially expensive complex medical needs)

As if we actually needed ‘proof’ – when they have been doing everything they can to highlight every petty misdemeanour and omission by the NHS.. Time to man the barricades in my opinion! 😀

Beyond belief….truth is stranger than fiction. GP’s role is nil and void now. Why aren’t doctors out in protest? They will end up becoming privatised as well and loose out on their NHS contribution as they get now.
