Welfare Reform Debate

WELFARE REFORM – REDRESS FOR THE DISABLED

Just wondered how many had watched the welfare reform debate in the House of Lords this week?

I confess to a certain amount of satisfaction as members of the noble House quoted from my report in their speeches; Tanni Grey Thompson mentioned the possible Americanised insurance system and Baroness King actually mentioning the fact that Unum Insurance resisted paying out insurance claims to their clients.  There may be more as I haven’t managed to sit through all 8 hours of the debate yet.

I’ve had some nice comments coming in from some of the members of the Lords who had received the report, and others expressing solidarity with our struggle.

For those of you going to the Liberal Dem conference this weekend, I hope it goes well and I will be utterly amazed if Nick Clegg doesn’t have a vote of no confidence against him by the time it’s over.

Take care.
